What is tempeh?

Tempeh is a traditional Indonesian staple food. Cooked legumes are inoculated with a beneficial mold culture and fermented naturally. During this process, the mold transforms the product, breaking down nutrients and making the legumes particularly easy to digest. Tempeh is naturally plant-based and contains many vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, fiber, and plenty of protein.

Our story

Hi, I'm Christopher, founder of Lazybean Tempeh! I'm passionate about cooking and always enjoy trying new things. In 2019, I discovered my love for tempeh – its appearance, unique nutty-mushroom flavor, and fantastic texture immediately captivated me. A few years later, I took the plunge into self-employment.

Bei uns muss es schnell gehen und allen schmecken. Das Lazy Hack landet bei uns fast jede Woche auf der Gemüsepizza. Die Kinder lieben es. Das ist mir wichtig.

  • Finn, 26 – Fermentation Enthusiast & Home Cook

I make my own miso, kimchi and kombucha – fermentation is my passion. I'm currently using Lazybean's koji rice for my first garum project. The tempeh won me over first.

  • Werner, 67 – Retired

Since my diabetes diagnosis I pay close attention to the glycaemic index of my food. Lazybean Tempeh has a low GI, lots of protein, plenty of fibre and is gluten-free – and it actually tastes great. Especially the black bean tempeh. I didn't expect that.

  • Renate, 57 – Active in a sports club

I first discovered Lazybean at the Isemarkt – Christopher arrived by bike. That already won me over before I even tried the tempeh. I now recommend it to everyone in my sports club.
